The Neues Ufer (‘New Shore’), which first opened its doors in 1977, holds the dis­tinc­tion of being one of Berlin’s very first gay cafés. In the 1970s, it went by the name “Anderes Ufer” (‘Oth­er Shore’). It con­tin­ues to wel­come patrons to this day.

Only a few steps away from Bowie’s apart­ment entrance, this café was a fre­quent haunt for both him and Iggy Pop.
